Farm To Table Festival

Farm To Table Festival

Written by Boschendal

Boschendal is hosting a Farm to Table Festival, set to become a regular attraction on the annual Foodie Calendar.

Celebrate natural produce and artisan food, share in the passion of natural food farmers, winemakers and farm to table chefs and sample natural, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients at the Boschendal Farm to Table Festival on the weekend of 23 and 24 April 2016. A choice of fresh naturally produced ingredients will be for sale at food stalls on the farm.

Foodies can participate in an informative, inspirational and entertaining weekend on the farm with like-minded ethical and health conscious gourmets and wine lovers, fans of artisan produce and urban farmers. Farm food lovers of all ages are welcome, the Farm Barbecue Picnic and additional kids’ activities on the Sunday also make this a great day out for families.

A variety of workshops starting at 9am on Saturday and Sunday include compost creation and sausage-making, talks and demos comprise urban food growing, biological agriculture and many more. Visitors can take part in guided tastings of premium Boschendal wines and Méthode Cap Classique, coffee and craft beer and are invited to explore the farm on informative tours. These include food garden tours and expeditions to visit the farmers and learn about biological farming with pasture raised beef and chicken.

Saturday Farm Feast Dinner – 23 April 2016
On Saturday, the long table Farm Feast Dinner will commence with wines and drinks being served at a long communal table with a festive, harvest style atmosphere from 4pm.  Enjoy dishes with seasonal farm produce, wine - including new Boschendal releases and entertainment. The food will be prepared on open fires by the Boschendal chefs with the centre piece being a naturally raised, pasture fed Angus ox that will be put on a spit and slowly roasted over a bed of coals throughout the day.
The Boschendal farm fundi’s and friends of the farm who participated in the informative festival sessions will join the evening, making this a great opportunity to chat. A separate kids table will be set up adjacent to the shared long table. Saturday evening looks a little chilly so we've moved the Feast into the beautiful Olive Press barn

The Farm

Agriculture and a simple farm lifestyle is at the heart of Boschendal. One of the oldest farms in South Africa, founded 1685, the farm has grown with the passing centuries into a cherished source of wholesome produce, great wines and happy memories.

Eat & Drink

The Cape Dutch farms were historically renowned for their warm welcome and generous hospitality. What crowned this welcome was the Cape table, laden with wholesome dishes made from ingredients from the farm’s werf and fields.
