HAPPY XMAS FROM ALL AT BOSCHENDAL!




The holiday season got to a rollicking start with the celebration of Gary Player's 70th birthday at Boschendal on Tuesday 22 November 2005. Guests were first taken to the view site overlooking the beautiful valley where they were able to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine and caviar before assembling for the birthday luncheon in Boschendal's werf. Here a nomadic tent had been spread out between the gabled buildings to offer shade to the party, which included celebrities like the American footballer and TV star, Ahmad Rashaad and international model, Clara La Reservee.

The Boschendal werf with its nomadic tent will be the setting for the Pam Golding Xmas Party to be held early this month and the multi-cultural band, "Freshly Ground", will once again provide live entertainment. Boschendal will also be hosting two important dinners for over a thousand German tour operators. They will be accompanied by leaders in the national tourism industry and both the Minister of Tourism and the CEO of Satour will be attending the functions. We are immensely proud that Satour has chosen Boschendal to showcase the Cape winelands!

Cultivar of the year: Sauvignon blanc

Boschendal's Sauvignon blancs are flying high! South African Airways selected Boschendal Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2005 for its First Class wine list and Jean Le Long Sauvignon Blanc has won its third gold medal at the Veritas awards. This is the result of hard work and close co-operation between winemaker, JC Bekker, and viticulturist, Spekkies van Breda, who are striving to make Boschendal's Sauvignon Blanc the best in the land!

Planted against the high slopes of the Simonsberg and shaded from the late afternoon sun, the Sauvignon blanc grapes have a prolonged ripening period, which enhances their flavour retention. Each block is treated according to its specific soil type and microclimate and harvested separately. Even in the cellar, the wine is fermented apart before blending finally takes place, in this way retaining high quality and consistency year after year. With 70 hectares of Sauvignon blanc under cultivation the Boschendal team can focus on this variety and try innovative blends.

Wine and food

Boschendal's Sauvignon Blanc combines tropical fruit and pear on the nose with unique herbaceous overtones on the palate, making it a good accompaniment for delicate fish, veal and poultry dishes being served over this festive period.

The first Moonlight Pique-Niques of the summer will be held on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th December 2005. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine while you stroll through the gardens and manor house, listening to classical music performed by the talented Catavina string quartet. After sunset guests are seated for dinner in the Boschendal werf with the moonlight casting its mysterious light on the whitewashed buildings. Grilled crayfish tail wrapped in smoked salmon trout will be served at the tables and this together with a glass of and Sauvignon Blanc will set the tone for the magnificent six course buffet meal to follow.

Come and join us for Christmas Day at Boschendal. The Restaurant, Le Pique-Nique, Manor House and Gift Shop will be open and the accordionist Stanislav will provide lots of music and Christmas cheer. Boschendal restaurant, decorated with Christmas trees and all the accoutrements, will be living up to its reputation as the place to be for Christmas! Serving the traditional Xmas fare of roast turkey, gammon and Xmas pudding, its menu also includes such delicacies as cream of oyster bisque deserving a special bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. On Le Pique-Nique's menu are Xmas favourites like lemon and rosemary turkey with sage and chestnut stuffing and mince pies with coffee at the end. Although lunches in both venues are fully booked for Christmas day there are still openings for lunch on the 24th and 26th and for dinner on Christmas Eve with the full Xmas spread.
