More about our local artist:
Ramon Alexander, the Mamre-born pianist and composer, had his first – classical – piano lessons, aged 10. In 1998  he studied with Cape Town piano and vibes player Merton Barrow at his jazz workshop.  While studying winemaking at Stellenbosch University, Alexander continued to play, first as part of student Christian outreach activities, and later with his own ensemble, ESP. ESP played wherever there was work: festivals, corporate functions and more. That was when Ramon started writing more and by 2004 when they launched their album, seven out of the 12 tracks were his compositions. Patient hard work has secured Alexander a solid reputation with the city’s jazz listeners. Alexander now works regularly leading his own ensembles in a range of bands at clubs.
